Match Ready

This autumn it’s all about the rugby as the World Cup 2015 hosted by England kicks off tonight with the final being played on 31 October at Twickenham Stadium in London.

Get yourself in the mood for the Rugby World Cup and kit out the family in this season’s must-have rugby attire. Whether you’re supporting England, Ireland, Scotland, or Wales you’ll find the major supermarkets as well as the high street have a great selection of tops and accessories to help you cheer on your team in style.

If you’re watching from the comfort of your sofa it’s time to get prepared by serving a sporty feast for friends and family – just make sure you cook enough to avoid a scrum for the last portion.

In honour of those burly players on the pitch this is the time to put the canapés and nibbles to one side and serve up heart-warming, wholesome dishes to your guests instead. Pile the plates high and get stuck in while enjoying the action. Think more along the lines of shepherd’s pie, lasagne, casserole or stew to pack a hefty punch to the palate.

A curry is a perfect dish to cook as you can prepare and cook it beforehand – and it only improves in flavour with a couple of days in the fridge. If you want a curry in a hurry then just add a jar of ready-made sauce from the supermarket and add some extra spice if you want to heat things up. Or you can make your own sauce adding whatever ingredients you fancy. Serve with rice, jacket potatoes or naan bread.

Pizza is ideal for sharing, either on its own or with salad, coleslaw and garlic bread. If you fancy something a little different then why not try these easy Pitta Pizzas?

Spread each pitta bread with 1 tbsp tomato puree, sprinkle over a pinch of mixed herbs and add a couple of tomato slices. You can then add any ingredients you fancy – salami, ham, pineapple, chilli peppers or chorizo to name but a few, and finish by topping with grated cheese. Place on the grill and cook until the cheese is golden and bubbling.

Sit back, relax and enjoy some ruck ‘n’ roll this season…
