To cope with rising demand from traders, Rotherham’s popular Tuesday street market is set to become bigger and better. Later this year the number of stalls along Effingham Street will increase from 62 to 95, with the market expanding into Effingham Square itself. Traders can rent stalls from as little as £10.00. Anyone that would like a spot should act fast since there is already a waiting list for the extra stalls.
The council’s Market Service is hopeful that all the additional stalls will be fully occupied within three months of being introduced. Councillor Dominic Beck, Cabinet Member for Business Growth and Regeneration, said a consultation with the current Tuesday traders and customers had revealed a real need for more stalls.
He added: “The Tuesday street market was introduced because it was one of the quietest days of the week. But that situation has been totally reversed and Tuesdays are now often one of the busiest days of the week bringing vibrancy and colour to the town centre.”
