Rotherham salutes its Young Achievers

Denis Copeland presents the award to ZoeRotherham celebrated the achievements of its young people at a special  Young Achievers Awards event, organised by the Rotherham Advertiser and jointly sponsored by Parkgate Shopping.

A packed Hellaby Hall Hotel heard exceptional stories of nominees who had triumphed over adversity and succeeded in a variety of categories, ranging through sport and the arts, education and fund-raising, campaigning and caring for the environment.

13-year old Zoe Jenkins gained the prestigious Parkgate Shopping “Triumph Over Adversity” award. Parkgate Manager, Denis Copeland commented after making the presentation: “Zoe has faced the kind of problems that would overwhelm most young people, yet has continued to approach life in such a positive way, and achieved all her ambitions in the performing arts.”

He added: “This is so typical of all the awards this year, and as with last year, demonstrates the wealth of talented and public spirited young people in the borough.”

Rotherham Advertiser editor Doug Melloy described the event as a humbling experience and commended the nominees as a shining example of all that is good in the young people of Rotherham.

“Very few people could have attended last night’s event without shedding a tear after hearing of the exceptional exploits of these remarkable youngsters,” he said.
