29 May 2012
Hundreds of outstanding young people and their parents and friends assembled for an unforgettable evening as Rotherham celebrated the achievements of its young citizens at a special Young Achievers Awards event, organised by the Rotherham Advertiser and jointly sponsored by Parkgate Shopping.
A packed Magna heard exceptional stories of nominees who had triumphed over adversity and succeeded in a variety of categories, ranging through sport and the arts, education and fund-raising, campaigning and caring for the environment.
13 year old Sabir Hussain, a student at Winterhill school Rotherham, gained the prestigious Parkgate Shopping “Community Impact and Involvement” award.
Sabir is a compassionate and exceptional youth who is dedicated to improving the lives of less fortunate ones around the globe, as well as working hard in the local community.
Over the past 3 years he has worked extremely hard to raise thousands of pounds to help Rotherham based charity WorldAid with its appeal for the Pakistan flood victims of 2010 - the worst floods in Pakistan's history that affected 14 million people.
Sabir furthermore has continued to raise funds for the East Africa Appeal which has uprooted thousands of children his age into camps in Ethiopia, Denis Copeland, Parkgate’s Manager, commented: “Sabir is an exemplary individual, who has demonstrated a determination to making a difference within his community and the wider communities. His community work has helped him with the opportunity to develop his own skills. He is an inspirational young person, who has earned widespread recognition from many people within the local community and his school.
“It was a real privilege to be a sponsor yet again of this year’s event, and to be able to present our particular award to such an outstanding candidate.”
