Christmas Opening

Toy Appeal Makes Two Visits To Parkgate

Rotherham's annual Children and Young People's Service Toy Appeal is getting off to a n-ice start this year when it's launched on December 1.

Rother FM will be joining forces with the Council to get the appeal off to the best possible start when it is officially launched as part of the festivities to mark the opening of the ice rink in All Saints Square.

Last year's appeal was a huge success with thousands of gifts collected. Among those who benefited were children with disabilities, those who live in Residential Units along with children and families in need.

This year the collection team and Rother FM will be making two visits to Parkgate Shopping, demonstrating the importance the Park now makes to the life of the local community.:

The full itinerary is:

- Thursday December 6, 10am to 2pm - Rotherham Central Library, Walker Place

- Saturday December 8, 1pm to 3pm - the Rother FM roadshow will be at Millmoor ahead of the Millers' match with Rochdale

- Wednesday December 12, 11am to 1pm - Morrison's at Parkgate Shopping

-Wednesday December 19, 11am to 1pm – TK Maxx, Parkgate Shopping

People can also donate toys and gifts by taking them to the Rother FM studios at Aspen Court, Bessemer Way.

Councillor Shaun Wright, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People's Services, said: "It's great to see Rother FM and all these other companies and organisations supporting the Toy Appeal after the big success of last year's efforts which helped so many children and families around the borough."

"The people of Rotherham have shown their generosity many times when it comes to helping their community and we are asking them to do the same again to make sure the festive period is that extra bit special for these children and young people."

Denis Copeland, manager of Parkgate Shopping, said: “We are really pleased to be associated with this year’s appeal, and I’m sure that our shoppers will respond generously to the two visits they are making to our Park.

Toys must be new and can be for any age from toddlers up to teenagers. Items for hampers can include any non-perishable food items such as tinned food, pasta, rice, cereals, tea and coffee.

Any organisations wanting to get involved in the campaign can contact Ann Levick, Family Support Worker, on 01709 336994.
