Another Sleepy Success at Parkgate
Runaway Children’s charity SAFE@LAST is celebrating the success of its fifth BIG Sleepout event at Parkgate Shopping, when nearly 200 local people turned up on a cold night (October 26) to raise valuable funds. Their enthusiasm also helps to raise awareness to support the 4000 children and young people in South Yorkshire that run away from home each year. In so doing they got a taste of what the experience might be for a young runaway who has no choice but to sleep rough.
The “sleepers” were cheered up when Lady Gaga’s local look-a-like joined them. “But,” explained Parkgate’s Nigel Keenlyside, “their real motivation was the realisation that a staggering one in nine children under 16 run away from home for a whole variety of reasons, but what they have in common is that they all need help.”
SAFE@LAST Head of Operations Mark Smith said “Our thanks goes to all those that have supported the event including all the brave people that slept rough and the organisations involved in making this event such a huge success like Parkgate Shopping.
“I also want to urge the public that it’s not too late to sponsor those involved and anyone wishing to do so can find more details on our website www.safeatlast.org.uk.”
