Yorkshire’s
Largest
Charity
Sleep-Out Set For
6 November In Rotherham
Over a hundred people including local celebrities
are not just giving their time but also their
sleep in aid of a Yorkshire based charity for
homeless children.
SAFE@LAST, who provide
vital services and support to vulnerable children
under 16 who have run away from home, are organising
what is believed to be Yorkshire’s
largest ever charity ‘Sleep-Out’ on
November 6 in Rotherham.
The event, which is taking
place at Parkgate Shopping Park just outside
the town centre, hopes to draw public attention
to the dangers faced by these children, and to
launch SAFE@LAST'S Christmas
Apppeal to raise thousands of pounds to provide
much needed protection.
“We know that
over 3000 children in South Yorkshire run away
from home or are thrown out of their homes
every year putting them at risk of abuse and
exploitation, and we are asking people to make
a modest donation to enable us to continue
the provision of our vital frontline services
to these children,” says event
organiser Mark Lees.
He added “Anyone
can make a £3
donation to SAFE@LAST'S Christmas
Appeal by texting the word SAM to 84424. This
modest amount could pay for important help like
our 24 telephone helpline or food and important
items for young, vulnerable runaways.”
Preceding the Parkgate
Sleep Out will be a street party including
entertainers, karaoke, dancing and sing-along
. The ‘sleepers’ will
be welcomed by charity patron Lord Scarborough
and supporter, Emmerdales’s Lucy Pargeter,
as well as the Mayor and other dignitaries.
“The evening festivities commence at Parkgate
at 5pm, and by the time they finish at 11pm the
sleepers should be more than ready for their
sleep,” says Mark, adding: “ We are
deeply grateful to Parkgate Shopping for all
their help, and hope that shoppers will come
along and show their support as well.”
