Parkgate's sponsorship helps Rotherham to tackle teenage literacy
31 August 2011

British Land, owners of Parkgate Shopping, has signed up with Rotherham Titans Community Foundation, part of the Rugby Union Club, to support an education programme to help teenagers realise their ambitions.

Parkgate is one of several high profile local organisations who have been enrolled as corporate sponsors of the 'Tackling' programme focussed on improving the outcomes for young people in literacy. The youngsters, who may have experienced problems in their personal and school lives, follow a ten week programme at the end of which they achieve an accredited qualification in key skills.

Delivering the programme will be Titans players, many of whom have advanced academic qualifications and have been trained to perform in the classroom as well as the rugby pitch.

“This is an exciting community initiative and we are delighted to be part of it,” says Denis Copeland, Manager of Parkgate Shopping.

He adds: “Giving youngsters who have been struggling at school a second chance in a different learning environment could help them to turn their lives around.  We wish the Titans team every success with this, and in their forthcoming Championship campaign.”
