Dolly Day At Parkgate
Mums and their toddlers
at Rotherham’s Daisy Chain Nursery were
so excited about the appearance of music legend
Dolly Parton at Magna on Wednesday (December
5) that they contacted their neighbour, Parkgate
Shopping, to see how they might commemorate
the visit.
As Dolly dropped into Rotherham to promote
her Imagination project to encourage reading
among under 5s, Parkgate’s Operations
Manager, Billy Smith, scrolled into his mobile
phone, and minutes later had secured the services
of a Dolly look-and-sound alike.
The mums and toddlers came onto the Park to
join in the musical entertainment, but the
visit had a more serious purpose as well. Staff
from Mothercare and Early Learning explained
the value of books, and reading from a selection
of the books they have in the store.
Dolly (aka Naomi Jones) is well known locally
as part of a singing duo with George (Judd)
Hamshaw. They perform a show called “Stars
in our Eyes” and have raised nearly a
quarter of a million pounds for charity in
the last 2 years.
