Rotherham
hosts climate change exhibition!
The Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham popped
into Parkgate Shopping Park to officially
open the Climate Change Exhibition that
is taking place until April 6.
They were shown around the various displays
by Denis Copeland, Manager of Parkgate,
and by representatives of the waste and
recycling and energy advice services at
Rotherham Council.
In his speech,
he explained to visitors that effective
carbon reducing actions can be as easy
as turning the thermostat down one degree. “Changing
to energy saving lightbulbs, washing
clothes at 30 degrees, taking a shorter
shower, turning off appliances, recycling
more of your household items, making
greater use of public transport are also
very effective measures that we can all
take,” he
said.

The exhibition uses a series of giant
billboards and displays bearing practical
information and easy measures that will
help everyone to reduce their carbon footprint
and make good environmental choices. The
displays touch on the issues of energy
use, carbon emissions, sustainable transport,
water use, recycling and waste reduction.
Visitors are encouraged to fill out a
simple form to indicated their views on
recycling and energy saving. After the
event, a winning form will be drawn, and
the person who filled it out will receive
a new bicycle.
