Safety Message Brings Out Mums and Dads to Parkgate

A Safety Day organised by Mothercare on Saturday (May 17) attracted parents from throughout the area keen to learn and understand some of the more serious issues about their children’s safety.

There were special demonstrations on choosing and installing a child safety seat, toy safety, fire and road safety. The Foundation For The Study of Infant Deaths (FSID) was on hand to provide information on sleep safety. Also present were the Rotherham Partnership for Road Safety, the Fire Service and the Police.

Sandra Crofts (third left in the photograph), Road Safety Officer from Rotherham Borough Council explained: “We were particularly keen to convey the importance of having the right child seat in a car, and how it should be correctly fitted. We estimate that at present seven out of ten people have not installed the seat in the correct way, and this could prove fatal in an accident.”

Sarah Pacey from Mothercare (fourth left in the photograph) who organised the event said “We were delighted with the response. Although we cover many of these issues every day in the store, this day-long event with experts on hand has been very useful to many people.”
