cctvCalling all blood donors who visit Parkgate
26 January 2010

The National Blood Service (NBS) will be bringing its BloodMobile onto Parkgate Shopping on three separate days in 2010.

They are:

Wednesday 10 February 8.15am – 6.00pm
Wednesday 21 July 8.15am – 6.00pm
Thursday 18 November 8.15am-6.00pm

The NBS hopes that both new and existing donors will attend these local blood donation sessions where samples collected, are used by the service to save and improve the lives of many sick and injured patients.

The process of giving blood takes only around one hour - with the actual donation taking less than ten minutes - and includes a quick chat with medical staff and completing the paperwork.

A spokesperson for the NHS Blood and Transplant, said: “We are so grateful to our regular donors who give up their time to save lives. We always need new donors to attend blood donation sessions to ensure that blood stocks are kept up and to replace those donors who may have to retire through ill-health. This is a chance to really make a difference and help to maintain supplies to hospitals in order that life-saving surgery and treatments can be carried out.

The service needs to collect around 1,300 units - at just under one pint per unit - every week in South Yorkshire. So such good attendances are vital. Anyone aged between 17-65, weighing more than 50 kg (7 stone 12 lbs) and in general good health could potentially start saving lives by becoming a blood donor. People can give blood three times a year.

If you are interested in becoming a donor or would like more information, please contact the National Blood Service on 0300 123 23 23 or visit www.blood.co.uk
