Community excellence wins popular Shopping Park a national award

Parkgate Shopping Park has scooped two categories, as well as the top award, in one of the UK’s most prestigious Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) awards.

It was honoured in the “communities” section of the British Land CSR Awards, for its “Better Parkgate, Better Rotherham” community programme. The Park helps Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, Safe @ Last and other local charities and community groups to raise money and run events.

And at the end of the awards ceremony, which took place in London, Parkgate was presented with the overall excellence award for its response to the serious flood that hit the Park last summer, when, within minutes, over 80 per cent of the Park was immersed under four feet of water.

The Parkgate Security Team worked tirelessly to ensure that over a hundred staff and customers who were stranded were safe, comfortable and warm. Working through the night, without power, they provided food, water, clothing and bedding, before the fire services arrived the following morning to carry out the rescue.

“On behalf of my team, I am extremely proud that all our hard work and dedication during the floods and throughout the year in our community work has earned us such a good reputation in the area, and been recognised through this very worthy award,” says Denis Copeland, Manager of Parkgate Shopping.
