Parkgate Memory Walkers hit the £250,000 mark

28 June 2012

450 walkers braved the Rotherham rain at Parkgate Shopping on Saturday (June 23) as they took part in the 2012 Rotherham Hospice Midnight Memory Walk.

The poor weather did little to dampen spirits though. The night began with a 70s themed party, which gave the walkers plenty of distraction from the hard miles ahead, and created a fantastic atmosphere. Then it was up to Rotherham’s newly elected Mayor, Cllr Dave Pickering, to set the walkers off on their five or ten mile trek around the town and its suburbs.

Hospice Fundraiser, Anne Giblin said, “I am thrilled that everyone adopted a true British spirit and didn’t let the weather put them off!  Everyone had a great night, and I am sure that the thought of raising vital funds for the Hospice kept everyone going! Thanks again to Parkgate for hosting and looking after us.”

The Midnight Walk from Parkgate is one of the biggest fundraisers in the Hospice calendar. Since it began in 2008, the event has raised over £210,000.  It is hoped that sponsorship from this year’s event will bring this total up to £250,000.
