Autumn Fashion Trends

As the sun sets on the summer, the high street is already helping us wrap up warm in classic style. Tweed suits, oversized capes and faux fur are all guaranteed to give our wardrobe the luxe factor this season. Check out our top ten key trends that have come straight off the catwalk and into the stores this autumn.

.The trucker jacket has been reworked in matt leather for this season and replaces the biker jacket as the must-have wardrobe essential.

.Sleeveless coats remain popular and a perfect choice for the layering trend when worn over knitwear. It’s all about the polo neck for autumn whether worn under another knit, tucked into trousers or loose over long skirts.

.The cape is a big fashion story this season and the more oversized the better. Whether you take inspiration from Burberry who showed fringed, ankle-length capes or designer Andrew Gn with capes trimmed with fur and tassels, it’s become a wardrobe staple with most designers showing a version on the catwalks for this season. Wear it with a belt cinched at the waist for a smart overall look.

.The 70s comeback for spring is going nowhere this autumn. Wide-leg flares and tapered trousers are back in the wardrobe along with prairie dresses, fringing and skinny scarves.

.There’s also a 80s style revival as power dressing has returned with tailored suits and the ubiquitous shoulder pad.

.Tweed has always featured on the autumn/winter catwalks and of course synonymous with Chanel. Karl Lagerfeld didn’t disappoint once again with beautiful tweed skirt suits paired with delicate block heeled ballerinas. Other designers reworked the heritage fabric in a contemporary manner with designer Haider Ackerman presenting a black and white palette with a rocker vibe.

.Whether you opt for a cropped, boxy or long line suit jacket this season the only fashion rule is it has to be double-breasted.

.There’s a decadent theme this season as ruffles, sheer fabrics, embellishment, brocade and velvet cut a costume-worthy silhouette for both day and eveningwear.

.Reds and browns are the strong colour palette this autumn with camel featuring as the dominant shade. The winter catwalk was also awash with shades of blue: ice blue – a washed-out winter shade mixed with black, indigo for top-to-toe denim, or teal to add elegance to eveningwear. Monochrome remains a favourite seasonal trend.

.Faux fur is the perfect trend to rock this season – not only will it keep you cosied up during the winter months but it’s super stylish too.
